Completed: 1996
Contractor: Metric Construction Inc.
Architect: KSC Management
The Space Station Processing Facility (SSPF) is located inside the industrial area of Kennedy Space Center, just east of the Operations and Checkout Building. It was built for the processing of the International Space Station flight hardware and featured the largest clean room ever constructed at the time it was built. Meisner began construction in 1991 on the three-story 457,000 square foot building, which included two processing bays, an airlock, operational control rooms, laboratories, logistics areas, office space, and a cafeteria. The processing areas, airlock, and laboratories were designed to support non-hazardous Station and Shuttle payloads in 100,000-class clean work areas.
